Externships

Externships are a great way to confirm your career direction before committing to a semester-long internship. They are ½ to 2-day job-shadowing experiences for students to gain an understanding of an organization, industry, and job function. You will have the opportunity to observe the day-to-day operations of a company, ask questions about the position, and “try-on” many different careers. Normally, externships include an introduction to the company culture and mission, a tour of the workplace, interaction with leadership and team members, and participation in hands-on projects/case studies.

The Career Center works with top organizations to host students for Externship opportunities in San Antonio and surrounding cities. Many externships have also led to Internship opportunities for Road Runners here at UTSA! Check out our adventures from Spring 2018!

How do I get involved?

If you are interested in attending an Externship, review available opportunities on Handshake and complete an Externship Agreement Form to secure your spot. To create the most beneficial and meaningful experience for students, we ask that all externship participants complete a Participation and Cancellation/No-show policy Agreement. If you do not see an externship opportunity that interests you, please share your externship suggestion and we would love to follow up with you. We value your feedback!
