Externship No-show Policy Acknowledgement

Externship Cancellation/ No-Show Policy(Required)
Because Externships are sponsored by the University Career Centers and our employer partners are in great demand, it is essential that students keep their attendance commitments. Missing Externships or failing to cancel them in a timely manner reflects poorly not only on the students, but also on UTSA as a whole. For this reason, students are required to observe the policy set forth below regarding the cancellation of Externships. This policy will be strictly enforced. By voluntarily signing up for an Externship, you accept the terms of the Externship Cancelation /No-show Policy. You will be considered a no-show if you fail to report for a scheduled Externship or if you cancel an appointment with less than 48 hours’ notice.
No Shows and First Last Minute Cancellations(Required)
Your first no-show requires a letter of apology to the employer with a copy to the Career Center. You will not be permitted to participate in Externships until the letter of apology is submitted. Students/alumni will be given 48 hours following the Externship date to write a letter of apology and explanation to the employer as appropriate. Students/Alumni must email this directly to the employer using the subject line “letter of apology/explanation” and must copy Career Center Experiential Learning Coordinator, Rachael Fletcher at Rachael.Fletcher@utsa.edu.
Second Last-Minute Cancellations(Required)
The student must follow the same procedure set above. However, the student will not be permitted to participate in any further externships until they meet with the Experiential Learning Coordinator, Rachael Fletcher. Additionally, a copy of your apology letter will be sent to your Department Dean to make aware of your frequent inability to properly cancel employer events.
Why we need a no-show/cancellation policy for events(Required)
Please note that when participants no-show for externships that require an RSVP, it is unfair to potential participants who wanted to attend but couldn't due to a possible waitlist. Employers invest substantial time and money in recruitment efforts. Students/alumni who "no show” waste valuable employer resources, rob other students of career opportunities, and leave the employer with a negative impression of the University. Moreover, such lapses of etiquette are generally not tolerated in business and civic settings. The UCC does not encourage Externship cancellations. If you need to cancel, you must notify the UCC directly. Call 210-458-4589 or send an email to Rachael.Fletcher@utsa.edu.
