Washington Headquarters Services (WHS) is excited to announce three Internship opportunities!

WSH is an organization under the Department of Defense (DoD) and the essential services provider for the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), DoD agencies, and offices in the National Capital Region.  DoD is the nation’s largest employer! There are over 1 million soldiers on active duty and over 700,000 civilians. It is also the nation’s oldest agency, but just like the world, it is always evolving! We are seeking highly qualified students who desire to gain knowledge and develop experiences with the Federal government. The WHS/OSD internship programs include Pathways Internship Program, Workforce Recruitment Program and Volunteer Student Internship Program. Each program targets a different population with varying skill levels.

Volunteer Student Internship Program (VSI):

The VSI program is popular and provides graduate and undergraduate students with the opportunity to learn from a professional within their intended career field, potentially influencing them to consider a career in public service. Volunteers may assist on projects and daily tasks related to the student’s major or career interests. If they are interested, they may apply by e-mailing their cover letter, resume and a copy of unofficial transcript (all in a PDF file) to whsvolunteers@mail.mil.

Pathways Interns (Paid Temporary Summer Interns)

College students who assist in 80% substantive work within their field of study, and 20% administrative work. WHS has centrally funded a limited number of summer intern positions for a period of not-to exceed 10 weeks during the May – August 2018 timeframe. The WHS Pathways announcements will be released February – March 2018. The positions include Foreign Affairs (GS-0199), Clerk Trainee (GS-0399), Human Resources Trainee (GS-0299), Operations Research Trainee (GS-1599), Fire Protection (GS-0899), Financial Analyst (GS-0599), Procurement Technician (GS-1199) and Personnel Security Specialist (GS-0080). For the program, the GS level ranges from GS-4 to GS-9. If they are interested, they may keep an eye on USAJOBS.gov between February – March 2018 for the above opportunities.

For eligibility purpose for the above programs, students must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a U.S. Citizen;
  • Be enrolled (or accepted for enrollment) in an accredited educational institution; and -Be enrolled at least half-time as defined by your educational institution.

Workforce Recruitment Program (WRP)

Highly motivated college students and recent graduates with disabilities who are eager to prove their abilities in the workplace through summer or permanent jobs. All students are pre-screened and interviewed by trained recruiters. Candidates range from college freshmen to graduate and law students. WRP is a 14-week program. If your school participates in the WRP program, then your interested students may apply through www.wrp.gov.
