Recruiters seek these 5 skills in Engineering graduates:

You’ve done what was expected of you. You performed well in the classroom and (you have almost) completed your Engineering curriculum requirements. You gained some additional project and/or research experience outside of the expectations surrounding your Senior Design project. You were an active member in your discipline’s student organization, and maybe even held a leadership position. Most importantly, you landed an outstanding internship and know that your resume is impressive (because you’ve visited the Career Center and had it reviewed).

What else? Can you say that you possess the following five skillsets that Engineering hiring managers say they value most in their candidates?

  1. Technical Skills
  2. Communication Skills
  3. Interpersonal Skills
  4. Problem-Solving, Critical Thinking
  5. Enthusiasm, Commitment, Motivation
