A Crash Course in Interviewing

Interviewing can be a very stressful time for many students, especially if you have never held a job. Here are some quick tips for acing the job interview, and leaving the greatest impression on the employer.

  1. Do Your RESEARCH! There is nothing worse than when the employer asks, “What do you know about our company?” and you cannot answer. Researching the employer will ensure you are prepared to answer specific questions about the company. The best place to conduct research is on the organization’s website. Look into things like their Mission, Vision, or Values, and determine how you align within that organization.
  2. Professional Dress is a MUST! Ladies and gents, the way you dress will give the first impression of who you are when you walk in for the interview. Ensure that your clothes are ironed and neat. Ladies wear minimal makeup (less is more). For both the males and the females best color suits include dark gray and navy blue.
  3. Ask great questions at the end! Come prepared with a least 3 questions to ask the employer.
  4. Get the Business Card to follow up with the thank you note/email immediately after the interview has concluded.
